PUILACHER, THE VILLAGE, ITS ENVIRONMENT

The village of Puilacher has approximately 450 inhabitants. It is situated in the centre of the Hérault department, 35 km from Montpellier, Sète, Béziers and Lodève. The church, the château and some remarkable houses surround the village square: these are XVIIIth century and Art Nouveau houses that stand testament to the prosperity of the big wine producers at the beginning of the century. The church, that dates in parts back to the XVth century , has just been renovated.

There is no commerce in Puilacher; however there are three villages (Tressan, Plaissan and Bélarga) less than 2km away where you can find everything you: grocery shop, bakery and post office. 3 km away, in Le Pouget, there are doctors and a chemist. Around 10km away, Clermont Hérault and Gignac are larger towns which have everything there, in particular the supermarkets. The wine culture has an important place in the economy of the region and the wine which is produced has become excellent; Puilacher's wine producers, called the Six Bell Towers Wine Co-operative (Cave cooperative des Six Clochers), has produced some quality wines. Not far away, about 15km, " the Terraces of Larzac ", vineyards on the side of the limestone plateaus of the Larzac, produce exceptional wines, as seen in the movie "Mondovino".

This region, little known a few years ago, is developing rapidly from a touristic point of view and certain architectural marvels such as the village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, the Abbey of Valmagne or new Montpellier attract thousands of visitors every year.

Access to Puilacher is easy from the motorway A9: at the exit for Sète you take the department road the D2 in the direction of Clermont l'Hérault (due north), Puilacher is 23 km from this exit.
